Areawide Council on Aging of Broward County, Inc.
The Areawide Council on Aging of Broward County, Inc. d/b/a The Area Agency on Aging of Broward County (AAABC) is a nonprofit organization serving Broward County's older adult residents, age 60 or older. The Areawide Council on Aging, Inc. was incorporated in 1974. The AAABC is part of a State Network which contains a total of 11 Area Agencies on Aging in the State of Florida which each have their own planning and service areas (PSAs). The AAABC is designated as PSA 10 and is the only PSA comprised of one county, Broward County.

The AAABC also administers the Aging and Disability Resource Center which serves adults over 60 as well as individuals 18 years of age or older who have been diagnosed with dementia or live with a disability. The ADRC is part of a single, coordinated system for information and access to services for all Floridians seeking long-term care resources. The ADRC provides information and assistance about state and federal benefits, as well as available local programs and services.
Our mission is to plan, develop, coordinate, evaluate programs and provide services for Broward residents, 60 years of age and older. We are the prime advocate for Broward County older adults.
The Area Agency on Aging of Broward County exists to improve the quality of life for all older adults living in Broward County. We do this by collaborating with other organizations and providing exceptional, compassionate leadership in a broad array of programs dedicated to allowing those we serve to continue to live life to their fullest potential.
The Area Agency on Aging of Broward County (AAABC) plans, develops, coordinates, and evaluates programs; funds services; and is the prime advocate for residents of Broward County, Florida, 60 years of age or older. The AAA also operates the Aging and Disability Resource Center which is your one-stop source of information regarding services in Broward County, Florida, for older adults, persons with disabilities, ages 18 and over, their families, and caregivers.
Participants must be 60 years of age or older for most programs except for the grandparent’s program which is eligible to older adults age 55 and older. In addition, the Alzheimer’s Disease Initiative program requires a medical diagnosis of dementia and the age criteria is 18 and older. Waiting lists presently exist for some services.
All programs are funded by the following through the Florida Department of Elder Affairs and the Areawide Council on Aging of Broward County: Titles III-B, III-C, III-D, III-E, V, and VII of the Reauthorized Older Americans Act; Florida's Community Care for the Elderly and Home Care for the Elderly Acts; Alzheimer's Disease Initiative Legislation; Medicaid; Serving Health Insurance Needs of the Elderly; Respite for Elders Living in Everyday Families; and Emergency Home Energy Assistance for the Elderly. Matching funds are contributed by Broward County Government and local municipalities.
Recipients of Federally-funded services are given the opportunity to donate, within their means, for the programs. Clients in State-funded Community Care for the Elderly and Alzheimer's Disease Initiative Programs are assessed co-payments based on a sliding scale.
