FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – May 6, 2024 – The Area Agency on Aging of Broward County’s (AAABC) CEO, Charlotte Mather-Taylor, has been inducted as a 2024 Inspiring Women of Health by the Health Foundation of South Florida. She earned recognition for her 30 years of senior and healthcare advocacy alongside 11 other extraordinary community leaders at the Inspiring Women of Health Awards Luncheon on March 21, 2024.

"Charlotte is a proactive change agent," mentions Naushira Pandya, M.D., AAABC board president. "Alongside the AAABC team, she addresses the challenges confronting our aging population head-on, and prioritizes ongoing programs and communications to meet the evolving needs of our community."

As CEO, Mather-Taylor oversees the nonprofit umbrella organization charged with planning, coordinating, monitoring, providing, and funding programs designed to meet the needs of almost half a million Broward County senior residents. Throughout her career, she has been keen to monitor the pulse of her community to better understand its needs and to put forth viable solutions. Inspired by firsthand accounts of seniors struggling with isolation during COVID-19, she spearheaded AAABC’s Senior Technologies Programs. Recent initiatives like the Tailored Caregiver Assessment & Referral Program (TCARE) to support family caregivers at risk of burnout, collaboration with Intuition Robotics to add ElliQ, an AI care companion, and partnership with Amazon Ring have greatly benefited seniors, promoting independence and well-being.

“Since taking on my role as CEO in 2019, our team has revolutionized how our seniors access essential services and maintain their independence,” states Charlotte MatherTaylor, CEO of AAABC. “By staying attuned to the needs of our community and advocating tirelessly on their behalf, we've made significant strides in shaping senior healthcare and promoting elder wellness in Broward County.”

This year marks AAABC’s 50th anniversary, serving Broward County’s seniors 60 years of age and older and adults with disabilities age 18 and above. The agency continues to be a beacon for seniors, offering free essential services such as the Elder Helpline, meal distributions, Medicare and Medicaid assistance, continued family caregiver education and more in Broward County. 211 Broward recently recognized the nonprofit as an On The Ball Nonprofit Organization of the Year in Innovation. In concert with technology, the AAABC continues to offer education and awareness for caregivers through its programs and yearly Empowering Caregivers Conference, which are crucial steps in preventing elder abuse crimes.
