Healthy Food Assistance

The Healthy Food Assistance program provides older adults with high quality, tasty, nutritionally sound, and diverse meal choices. The Congregate Meal and Home Delivered Meal Programs are designed for older individuals, age 60 and older, to live independently, have better health, and reduced isolation. Good nutrition is an important part of living a healthy lifestyle for older adults. Empowered Partners Humana Food Box Program

Empowered Partners is a comprehensive older adults United Way outreach program focused on increasing social connectedness, access to care, and food security in older adults in Broward County while improving older adult care knowledge across the system of care. In an effort to decrease food insecurity in older adults, the program offers an opportunity to provide qualifying older adults with a monthly food box through our provider, Sterling Food Co.

To qualify, you must be an older adult 60 years or older, living in Broward County. The food box will be delivered to your home address at approximately the same time each month. Priority will be given to older adults who are participating in the Empowered Partners Companionship Program.

 

Home Delivered Meals

Home delivered meals provide to eligible individuals with nutritionally sound, high quality, tasty meals in their homes. Emphasis is placed on serving older adults who are at greatest economic and social need, low-income minorities, and those who are at nutritional risk. We provide year-round home delivered meals through our contracted meal providers, Offerdahl's Off-the-Grill, Sterling Food Group, Sushi Maki-Medley Food Group, and United HomeCare. There is a choice of specialty meals such as puree, gluten-free, Kosher, and other options if you are on a specialized diet. In addition, there are culturally diverse food choices such as Cuban, Italian, and other options available. 

To be eligible for our Home Delivered Meal program you must be age 60 or older and homebound or a caregiver living in a home with an older adult who is homebound. Please contact the Aging & Disability Resource Center Helpline at 954.745.9779 for assistance in applying for Home Delivered Meals or email us at meals@adrcbroward.org. If you email please provide, your name, address, and phone number and one of our Information and Referral Professionals will call you back.

Once qualified you will receive meals each week delivered to your home through one of our home delivered meal providers.

ADRC Emergency Meal Program

The ADRC Emergency Meal Program is a temporary meal program that is here to help you if you are homebound or if you are 150% below the FPL and are in need of support. Meals are provided by local restaurants and caterers and there is a choice of a variety of meals such as puree, kosher, gluten-free, Cuban, American variety, and other specialty meals.

We also provide year-round Home Delivered Meals through our contracted meal providers, Sterling Food Group and Medley Food Group. To qualify for these meals you must also call the Aging and Disability Resource Center Helpline at 954-745-9779 to become qualified. 

Congregate Meal Sites

Congregate meals offer nutritional and social benefits and are a healthy and convenient option for anyone 60 years old or older. The Area Agency of Aging of Broward County is looking to provide older adults with high quality, tasty, nutritionally sound, culturally diverse meal choices and to encourage participation, socialization and satisfaction with the meals received in a congregate setting. In addition to the advantages of a healthy meal that requires no shopping, preparation, or cleanup, every site offers social activities. older adults can improve their health by eating healthier foods and interacting with others.

Well-balanced meals are available through our contracted vendors, Flipany and Sterling Food Group, at Congregate Meal Site locations throughout Broward County. Review the list of Congregate Meal Sites below for a location near you. Call the individual sites for more information and current meal times. Transportation to many meal sites is free.

Nutritional education is provided to participants, and donations are gratefully accepted.
