December's episode of Spotlight on Seniors brings 2012 to a strong close, with our guest Sandy Harris, Executive Director of the Broward Delegation. Edith and Ms. Harris spoke about the organization. Ms. Harris' long time experience, in the leadership role, has proven to be of tremendous value to the Delegation, as well as to the community. This episode is entitled, "Dynamic Leader Directs Delegation."

Dr. Murray Todd continues to be a valued source of information for Spotlight on Seniors. November's episode, entitled "Humanity Addresses Alzheimer's Agenda," was his 23rd appearance on the show. Dr. Todd spoke to Edith about the state of Alzheimer's treatments, and the continued search for ways to help improve the lives of victims of Alzheimer's Disease.

In October, 2012, Spotlight on Seniors featured Commander Michael Calderin. The Commander and Edith spoke about many of the methods in which Elders are victimized, as well as ways to prevent financial, emotional and physical abuse. Commander Calderin's episode is entitled "An Ageless Agenda—How to Avoid Elder Abuse."

Dr. Mayuri Gupta is an internal medicine physician with the Broward Health Physician Group. Dr. Gupta is one of the few physicians in South Florida who is fellowship-trained in endoscopic ultrasound (EUS). In September 2012, Dr. Gupta appeared on Spotlight on Seniors with host Edith Lederberg. Edith spoke to the Doctor about her history, as well as her extensive medical training. Dr. Gupta also shared vital information on pain management, and some of the methods available to help ease pain during recovery. Dr. Gupta's episode is entitled "Internal Medicine: Your Pain is Our Concern."

State Senator Nan Rich, who served both in the Florida State House and then in the Senate, appeared on August's Spotlight on Seniors. Her episode is entitled "Leadership Attracts Humanity's Advocates." She spoke about her tenure in Tallahassee, as well as funding issues impacting older Floridians.

Dr. Paula Thaqi, Director of the Broward County Health Department appeared on the July episode of Spotlight. She spoke about early diagnosis of AIDS, as well as continued engagement in health care to improve outcomes and decrease transmission. Her episode is entitled, "AIDS—Epidemics and Senior Specifics."

Ridwan Lin, MD, PhD, is a board certified neurologist at Broward Health North, specializing in a wide range of cerebrovascular disorders. In June, he visited Spotlight and spoke with Edith about the warning signs and risk factors of stroke, as well as current available treatments. His episode is entitled, "Vascular Neurology—Strokes Cause and Treatment."

Kenneth Rubin, Esq., a Past President of the Areawide Council on Aging, and a 2011 Electee to the Broward Senior Hall of Fame, appeared on April's segment, "Sage Seniors Seek Legal Advice." Rubin often provided pro bono legal work for needy elders who welcome and appreciate his informed, essential assitance.

ADRC Fundraising Co-Chairs Justine Hoo and Rona Silberman appeared on the March episode, "Volunteer Champions Focus on Fundraising." The terrific twosome's first undertaking, the ADRC's Annual Fashion Show, was a sterling success.

In February, appearing on "Angel Advocate for Isolated Aging," Gail Gannotta, Director of Senior Intervention Program at the ADRC, spoke with Ms. Lederberg about the challenges with which some of the County's most needy elders require assistance. A major portion of Ms. Gannotta's Position is funded by the Jim Moran Foundation.

Andrea Busada, Director of Broward County Elderly and Veterans Services, appeared in January's episode, "Seniors Seen as Service Priority." Since the mid-1980s, the County has been designated by the Aging and Disability Resource Center as Lead Agency for Community Care for the Elderly Services in Broward.
