SNAP is a federal program (previously known as food stamps) that provides nutritious benefits that can be used to purchase food. The amount you receive depends on your household income from all sources, deductions of high medical or housing costs, and how many people live in your household.

According to AARP, millions of adults ages 50 and older rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Households can use food assistance benefits to buy breads, cereals, fruits, vegetables, meats, fish, poultry, dairy, and plants and seeds to grow food for your household to eat.
