Barbara Gordon is a retired Principal from the Chicago Public School system who has served as a member of the Pompano Beach East Community Redevelopment Agency Advisory Council, People of Pompano, Friends of Herb Skolnick Cultural Arts Foundation, Pompano Beach Downtown Business Association, and more.
She's been volunteering in Broward County since 2004, as a SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) Counselor who provides free Medicare and Health Insurance education to elders and other assistance during the Medicare Annual Election Period. Ms. Gordon has served as a SHINE Local Coordinator from 2011-2017, and mentored many new volunteers.
Barbara is singularly responsible for establishing and maintaining the SHINE Satellite Office at Pompano Beach City Hall. She caringly gathers information, diligently researches and provides clients with extensive service and options. She has directly assisted over a thousand clients with Medicare issues. Barbara is a certified member of the SHINE Speaker’s Bureau who has spent many hours providing presentations on behalf of SHINE. In her spare time, she represents SHINE at Health Fairs and other outreach events.
Barbara Gordon definitely merits election into the Broward Senior Hall of Fame.
